The short version
- 1.We collect what you tell us.
- 2.We use it to prepare your valuation estimate and, if you want an introduction, to connect you with one or more M&A advisors who work with businesses like yours.
- 3.We only pass your details to an advisor if you ask us to introduce you. An advisor may pay us a fee for that introduction. You never pay us anything.
- 4.We do not sell your details to data brokers, list sellers, or anyone else.
- 5.You can ask us what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email jonathan@coldclick.io and we will action it.
Who we are
Coldclick helps owners of US businesses who are thinking about selling. If you want an introduction, we connect you with sell-side mergers and acquisitions advisors who work with businesses like yours. That may be one advisor or several. It costs you nothing.
We are not an advisor, a broker, a broker-dealer, or a valuation firm. We do not act for you in any transaction, and the estimate our calculator produces is not a formal valuation.
Coldclick is operated by Coldclick Consulting Ltd. Our full company details are at the bottom of this page. If you have a question about anything here, email jonathan@coldclick.io and it will reach a person.
What we collect
What you enter in the valuation calculator
- Your name.
- Your business name and a short description of what the business does.
- Approximate annual revenue, and an approximate profit figure or margin.
- Your answers on revenue trend, how much of your revenue is recurring, and how much of the business depends on you.
- The estimated valuation range we generate from those answers.
- Whether you agreed to us using the details, and the date and time you did.
We record your answers when you reach the review screen, before you press Submit. If you leave without submitting, we may still hold the answers you entered up to that point. If you would like those deleted, email us and we will remove them.
Your contact details
Where you give them to us, we collect your email address and your telephone number, including a mobile number. We use them to send you your estimate, to follow up on what you asked us for, and to arrange an introduction if you want one. You choose whether to give us a phone number.
What you tell us when we speak
If you book a call or get in touch, we keep notes on what you tell us about your business and your plans, including your timing, so that we do not have to ask you the same questions twice.
Business contact information we obtain to reach out
We also contact business owners who have not previously heard from us, by email and by telephone. To do that we obtain business contact information from third party data providers and from publicly available sources. This typically includes name, job title, employer, business email address, business or mobile telephone number, a public professional profile link, and company information such as industry, size and location.
If you heard from us and want to know where your details came from, or want us to stop, see how to stop hearing from us below.
Technical information
Like most websites, when you visit we and our hosting and infrastructure providers automatically receive your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring page, and the pages you view and when. Our pages load fonts and styling libraries from third party networks, which means those providers also receive your IP address as a normal part of serving those files.
Cookies
The valuation calculator does not set advertising or analytics cookies, and it does not use browser storage to profile you. Third party tools embedded elsewhere on our site, such as our scheduling widget and our video player, may set their own cookies when you interact with them. Those are governed by the privacy policies of the providers concerned.
How we use your information
- To produce your valuation estimate. We need your answers to generate a range. Without them there is nothing to calculate.
- To follow up on what you asked us for. Where you have asked us for a valuation or an introduction, we may contact you about it by email or telephone.
- To introduce you to an advisor, where you ask us to. We match what you have told us against the criteria advisors give us, and we arrange the call.
- To contact business owners about our service, subject to the opt out below.
- To run and improve the service. Understanding which industries and business sizes use the calculator, keeping the site working, and preventing abuse.
- To meet our legal obligations, including keeping records and responding to lawful requests.
Automated processing
We use automated tools, including large language models, to sort and classify company information at scale, for example to judge whether a business appears to be the kind of business an advisor would want to talk to. This affects whether we get in touch with a business. It does not produce a legal or similarly significant decision about you as an individual, and a person reviews anything that leads to an introduction.
Who we share it with
Advisors, only if you ask us to introduce you
If you tell us you would like an introduction, we share a brief on your business with the advisor or advisors we think fit. That brief contains what you have told us: the type of business, its approximate size and financial shape, its location, and your situation and timing. We share your name and contact details with the advisor at the point the introduction happens.
If you do not ask for an introduction, we do not pass your details to an advisor.
Service providers who process information on our behalf
We use third party tools to run the business. They may handle your information only on our instructions and only to provide their service to us. They cover:
- Website hosting, domain and network services.
- Cloud storage, spreadsheets and productivity tools, and the automations that move data between them.
- Customer relationship management and telephone dialling.
- Email sending and email deliverability tooling.
- Data sourcing, email verification and telephone number enrichment.
- Call scheduling and video conferencing.
- Video hosting.
- Automated classification, as described above.
We can tell you which specific providers we use. Email us and ask.
Other disclosures
We may disclose information where we are required to by law, to establish or defend legal claims, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or to a buyer or successor if our business is reorganised, sold or merged. We will not do so to avoid an obligation we owe you under this policy.
How we are paid
You never pay us anything.
Sometimes an advisor pays us a fee for an introduction to an owner who matches the criteria they gave us. Sometimes we make the introduction for nothing, because we are building a working relationship with that advisor. Whether a fee is payable is a matter between us and the advisor, and it makes no difference to you either way.
Where a fee is payable, it is earned on the introduction itself. It is never a percentage of any transaction, and we are paid nothing further if you go on to sell your business. We tell you this because you should know how the service works before you decide to use it.
Do we sell your information?
We do not sell your information in the ordinary sense of the phrase. We do not sell or rent our contact records to data brokers, list vendors, advertisers or anyone else, and we do not share personal information for cross context behavioural advertising.
The only disclosure we make to a third party for your benefit is the advisor introduction described above, and we make it only where you have asked us to introduce you. An advisor may pay us a fee for that introduction. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, a disclosure that you direct us to make is treated differently from a sale. Whatever the correct characterisation in your case, you can tell us to stop and to delete your information at any time, and we will.
Your privacy rights
Several US states give residents rights over their personal information, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia and others. The exact wording varies by state. Rather than make you work out which applies to you, we will honour all of the following for anyone who asks, wherever you live:
- Know. What personal information we hold about you, where we got it, why we have it, and who we have disclosed it to.
- Access. Get a copy of it.
- Correct. Fix anything that is wrong.
- Delete. Have it erased.
- Opt out. Stop any sale or sharing of your personal information, and stop targeted advertising. We do not do either of these things, but the right stands.
- No retaliation. We will not treat you worse for asking. You will not be refused a valuation or an introduction, and nothing about the service will change, because you asked us a privacy question.
California residents may also ask us to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not ask for or knowingly collect sensitive personal information through the calculator.
How to exercise any of this
Email jonathan@coldclick.io and tell us what you want. You do not need to use any particular form of words. We will respond within 30 days, and we will tell you if we need longer. We may need to ask you something to confirm you are who you say you are, so that we do not hand your information to somebody else. You can use an authorised agent, and we may ask for proof of their authority.
How to stop hearing from us
Reply to any email from us and say stop, use the unsubscribe link in it, tell us on the phone, or email jonathan@coldclick.io. Any of those work and you do not need to give a reason.
We will remove you from our campaigns and add you to our suppression list so that you are not contacted again by mistake. To make that work we have to keep a minimal record of you, which is your name, your contact details and the fact that you opted out. Keeping that record is the only way to reliably not contact you.
How long we keep it
We keep valuation calculator answers for as long as they are useful for the purpose you gave them to us for, and no longer than three years from your last contact with us, unless you ask us to delete them sooner or we need to keep them for a legal reason.
Suppression records, as described above, are kept for longer, because a suppression list only works if we keep it.
How we protect it
This site is served over an encrypted connection. Information we collect is held in access controlled business accounts with reputable providers, encrypted in transit and at rest by those providers, and available only to the small number of people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise. If something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you and the relevant regulator where the law requires it.
Children
This service is for business owners and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think we have, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information we already hold about you, we will take reasonable steps to tell you directly.
Where your information is held
Most of the people who use our service are in the United States. Our own team and some of our systems are in the United Kingdom, so your information will be transferred to and stored in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. Where the law requires a safeguard for one of those transfers, we rely on the relevant adequacy regulations or on standard contractual clauses with the provider concerned.
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Union, Coldclick Consulting Ltd is the controller of your personal information. Our lawful bases are consent, for a valuation you asked us to prepare and any introduction you request, legitimate interests, for running and marketing our business, and legal obligation. You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection to processing based on legitimate interests, including objection to direct marketing at any time. Where we rely on consent you can withdraw it at any time, which does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.
